God’s Plan for You – A Grand Adventure with Divine Purpose
I remember the day so well. It was February of 2003. I was sitting in a brand new Honda Odyssey van my wife and I had just paid cash for. I was parked in an empty parking lot of an empty state park. My wife thought I was at work. Everyone at work thought I was out of the office trying to sell something. I spent the entire day by myself in that van… miserable and in tears.
I had no reason to be miserable. As I said, I paid cash for the van I was in. I had recently moved into a home my wife and I had built. I was making a decent living as a partner in a small business. I was married to a drop-dead gorgeous blonde I had fallen hopelessly in love with when she was just 16, and we had three wonderful and healthy children between the ages of 12 and 2. But there I was, in tears until I knew my wife would be wondering where I was.
I pulled myself together, went home, and pretended nothing was wrong until everyone went to bed. Then I sat alone in the dark living room, wrestling with God. I was praying because it seemed hopeless that I could get out of this situation myself. In the midst of my desperation, God helped me realize that my employees deserved a better boss, my partners deserved a better partner, my children deserved a better example of how to live, and my wife deserved a better husband than this. God inspired me in a way I had never encountered before. He awakened the very core of my being with the desire to figure out the difference between just surviving and truly thriving.
The difference about this encounter with God, though I didn’t realize it then, was twofold. One, He inspired me to work not for my sake but for the sake of others. Two, it was not a passion born out of my own desire but rather a purpose that God had created me for. Since then, I have told so many people that I really don’t believe anyone has a better life than me… not one person. My life became an adventure that Peter Pan would be extremely jealous of.
You Are Part of God’s Grand Design
You are a masterpiece, created for a purpose by a loving God. Your life has profound significance, both in this world and for eternity. God’s grand design includes you, and fulfilling your purpose will provide you with joy, life, and adventure that you’ll never have simply chasing pleasure. Living for Christ and His purpose will bring you to a point where you look around and think very few people, if any, in the world have a life as great as yours.
Scripture on Purpose
Scripture emphasizes the importance of living out the purpose God created us for. Jesus calls us, His disciples, to embrace our purpose in life. As He journeyed to Jerusalem, fully aware of the suffering He was about to face, Jesus made His mission clear. In John 12:27, He said, “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” Jesus knew He was fulfilling His purpose by going to the cross and suffering as He did—it was the reason He came to Earth.
In Luke 9:23, Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” What does He mean by “take up your cross”? His cross was the purpose He came to this world for. Your cross is the purpose you were created by God to fulfill. Our cross is our purpose in life, just as Jesus’ cross was His purpose. We are being told by Christ to take up our cross daily. To do that, we need to discover what our purpose is that God created us for and find a way to live it day in and day out, so we can fulfill that purpose.
Fulfilling Your God-Given Purpose
Fulfilling your God-given purpose is not just an obligation—it’s a path to joy, fulfillment, and an adventurous life that stands out in a world of darkness and despair. Embrace your cross, live your purpose, and experience the profound difference it makes. Imagine a life where every day is a step toward fulfilling your divine purpose. A life where your actions, no matter how small, contribute to God’s grand design. This is the life God calls you to—a life of adventure, purpose, and profound joy. Living life like this doesn’t just change you; it changes those around you. It provides adventure and joy, and you become an example of how wonderful life can be when living for Christ.
But It Gets Even Better
Beyond this grand adventure and fulfilling it, we cannot imagine what it will mean for all eternity. If we choose the salvation of Jesus Christ, we are destined to live in communion and oneness with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Do you think for one minute God’s life is not a grand adventure? We are called to be part of it. That is what every human was designed to be. It’s why He created humanity—to be one with Him and experience His grand adventure.
However, There Is a Problem
Just as Christ’s cross was not an easy thing, your purpose and adventure, though divinely created, will likely not be easy. Satan hates you and wants to crush your divine adventure…and that is what we will talk about next.
